When to visit Qatar

Located on the northwest coast of Qatar, the archaeological zone extends over 600,000 m², including the Al Zubarah Fort. The fort houses a visitor centre and is one of the most visited sites.

Al Zubarah has been classified as one of the most important diving and trading centres in the Gulf, with links stretching all the way to the Indian Ocean. Al Zubarah's importance was recognised by UNESCO in 2013, after an extensive restoration project that is still ongoing.

The city of Al Zubarah, on the Persian Gulf, flourished as a trading and pearling centre in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and so far only a small part of the ancient city has been excavated. The desert sands have tried to protect the ruins over the decades.
